I don’t want to get a new webhost, but that seems to be what I’ll need to do if I want to use Sweetcron (or anything else) effectively. The fact that outbound connections are blocked by the firewall of my webhost unless I specifically request them to be allowed is bothersome, as it doesn’t allow for quick changes or tests or the addition of new things. So it goes. One of these days I’ll deal with it, but I assumed that trying to change webhosts over Labor Day weekend wasn’t going to work out well for me.
I’m tempted to get a new domain name, I’m just not sure what. I can almost guess what one suggestion might be, and yes, it appears to be available, but no, I don’t feel like I will able to look someone in the face and tell them my website.
So, I have the day off to celebrate the wife’s 30th birthday, and with having Monday off as well, I’m probably going to play around with the 1.07 beta release of sweetcron on a subdomain. If I’m impressed with it, I’ll probably be working on converting everything over and/or getting mad at my webhost (I’m hoping none of the neat things about sweetcron are blocked, but it’s possible).
The one issue I see is that I’ll need to click the button on my webhost control panel to go from php4 to php5, and I’m not sure what, if anything, that will break with the current version of WP I have running. There appears to be a work around for using sweetcron on php4, but I’ll have to wait and see.
Edit: you can go see it over at http://sctest.sean-ward.com/
The current issue I have is: fsockopen error: Permission denied
That’s what I get when I try to add a feed, meaning it is being blocked by by host’s firewall, which requires a trouble ticket for each and every feed I want to set up.
Ugh. It might be time to look for a new webhost.
It’s a term that was explained at ResNet by George, and some of us found it amusing. I couldn’t let Jim be the only one to blog a post solely about winkyboodle.
I’ve been waiting to hear some information regarding the release of Sweetcron, and it looks like it’ll released on 8/28/08. Just as well, as by then I should have most issues from move in resolved. Once it is released, I’ll be able to see how much work it would take to migrate over to it; I like the look and feel yongfook.com.
