Two weeks and a weekend of bicycle usage

About two weeks ago, my bicycle was ready for me at Cycle Werks following its tune-up, and as I had said I was going to, I purchased a rear rack and an attachable grocery bag for the rack.  I’ve been using the bag to carry any food, drink, or other items to work, all of a mile away.  The added benefit of the bicycle over walking is that it still makes the apartment very accessible, time-wise, if I want to leave the office for lunch, as I did on Friday.  It also allows me to get to a majority of places in BG during lunch without having to drive, as I did on Wednesday when I went to GFT to get a coffee and a second lunch (the first lunch was eaten about 2 hours earlier due to me not eating breakfast) while reading, and on Thursday when I went to Uraku for sushi and some reading.

Today I finally took the bicycle out to take care of some weekend chores.  I loaded up the grocery bag with some old phone books, some cardboard, and paper that didn’t need to be shredded and took a trip to the recycling center, which was a trip of about 1.6 miles.  From there, I went to the Farmer’s Market at the mall, which brought me to a trip of 3.15, but sadly, there was nothing of note to purchase this weekend.  Eventually there will be more as items come into season, but so it goes.    I then came back home for a total trip of 5.36 miles.  I’m particularly glad that I was able to make the trip and not get winded, as it means I’m in a little bit better shape than I thought I might be.  Sure, my legs are tired, but that’s the way it goes.

On an unrelated note, I finally got up to 24 bags knocked down on the boxing portion of Wii Sports.  My record for a while was 19, which I was able to get or just be 1 shy of, but I finally got 20 and then 24 before I decided I was finished playing.  About an hour later, I realized that I was rather sore from doing that, but then again, I did play about 15 rounds of it, and before hand I took on the computer in a boxing match (we tied).  I’m trying to get myself in the habit of using the Wii more often to see if I can justify the purchase of Wii Fit.
