Well, another Seanmas is upon us, and I realize that it’s been almost 4 weeks since I last posted. Since then, there has been Christmas, New Years, and today, Seanmas. The reason I call it Seanmas is because last year my wife had not gotten around to decorating the small Christmas tree she put in our bedroom. She had (probably in an unhappy manner) sad that she didn’t get a chance to decorate the tree for Christmas. I immediately told her that it was ok, but that she could decorate it for Seanmas instead, which always falls two weeks after Christams. And thus a tradition was born.
I’ll jump back a bit. The Friday before Christmas I ruined an otherwise awesome Christmas gift by purchasing a Wii at the local video game store. I called the wife and she said “I bet you’re proud of yourself, aren’t you?” which immediately did not sound good. I returned it, but I knew that someone was getting me one. Aside from the irony of the situation, I’m sure the guys at work got a kick out of it. What I didn’t expect was that the vector of the Wii gift was going to come from was my brother, the graduate student. By my calculations, graduate students tend to be broke, or barely not broke. Regardless I have enjoyed the gift so far, and I currently have the following titles:
- Wii Sports
- Wii Play
- Mario Party 8
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
- Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
When my brother was here, we played the tank game on Wii Play the most. The night before he left, we got to level 20 only to discover that the enemy tanks become invisible. Stupid ghost tanks. Meghan has even taken a liking to bowling and had fun playing the tank game too. I see that Jim posted about the Wii before I did, but I take pride in the fact that I posted about having one sooner than he did.
On that note, anyone I know that has a Wii code, shoot me an e-mail, Facebook message, etc, and we can trade. (Question: is there a Facebook Wii code app? *checks* Answer: of course there is, but I’m not sure which one to go with.)
I also ended up getting Carcassone and Ticket to Ride for Christmas, both of which turned out to be great games, especially since they are made for at least 2 players, something which Settlers of Catan isn’t. The games are also basic enough that almost anyone can play them, and I think kids would enjoy them quite a bit. Personally, I’ll be looking for the expansions for both of these games.
I ended up with some new CDs, which went even better with my new iPod (6G 80GB) to replace the practically-dead iPod (4G 40GB) I hadn’t been using for a couple months. It was getting to the point with the old one that it would have cost enough to get a replacement hard drive that it would make more sense to get a new one. Now, however, I can save all my photos to the iPod too, but I need to see if there is a better way to organize them.
For a couple days before New Year’s, I spent some time with friends from high school, which was a good time, but New Year’s itself was nice and quiet with just my wife and myself staying in.
Following New Year’s though, I got in my car on January 2nd to drive to work and noticed a crack in my windshield, which was roughly 8″ from the driver’s side along the bottom and curving up to being about 2″. By the time I got to work, the crack was about 6″ from the edge of the passenger side. Fortunately, it didn’t take too long to set up a time to get it fixed at the dealership, and it was not nearly as expensive as I was expecting. In my mind, though, this was a good thing as now:
- My windshield is tinted at the top. It wasn’t before, and it would always cause me problems when driving and the sun could not be blocked by the visors.
- I have bad luck with screens, monitors, etc, and I believe that the windshield crack covers my (practically) yearly issue I have with cracking, breaking, LCD-bleeding, etc of said monitors and screens. Ideally, that means I will not break the television while playing the Wii.
I think that should be a good enough post for now, and it might prompt me to post some more, as I want to comment on a couple of things listed here. In closing, I’ll say that my motivation has been lacking in the posting department as of late, but that should be passing. Also, this is a unique Seanmas as it was in the high 50s and broke 60 degrees today and it was rainy. This is January, and I’m used to having to deal with snow on days like this. How odd.
